Hyukoh Plays Two Sold Out Shows in Hong Kong

Ask 9 out of 10 people about Korean music, and their first thought is going to be K-Pop. It's no surprise though, the hyper-polished and meticulous machine that is K-Pop is South Korea's greatest cultural export. While there's nothing wrong with the genre, the tried-and-true formula has become a well-oiled machine... and well, it's always refreshing to see something new. And that's exactly where Hyukoh comes in.

If you haven't heard of the band yet, you will. All born in 1993, the four-person quartet has been covered by the likes of DAZED, SSENSE, Vice, Highsnobiety...and the list goes on. You'll see the words "indie," "refreshing," "new-wave," "post-K-Pop" repeated over and over again. Known for their alternative indie rock sound - everything about Hyukoh is refreshing coming out of a country known for its manicured pop-stars.

It also doesn't hurt that the band is fronted by Oh Hyuk, guitarist and vocalist - of whom the band is also named after. With his signature shaved head, piercings, and tattoos, Oh Hyuk has become somewhat of an icon for South Korea's youth, and a fashion darling.

But the band isn't successful only because they're refreshing - they're really good. And even better live.

The band's first release came out in 2014, and by this year, they've released their latest album (24: How to find true love and happiness) and toured around the world - selling out shows internationally. The band announced a show in Hong Kong that sold out so quickly an extra date was added (that also sold out immediately). During the show, the band showed exactly why they've become so popular. They're heartfelt, real and well, they're just being themselves. Oh Hyuk even wished everyone what we all probably wish for ourselves - to find true love and happiness
